Description |
Digital photograph showing east eaves wall elevation of Michael Fulp House. The yellow caution tape was in place during engineering studies to determine the structural stability and safety of the exterior masonry walls and chimney stack. A restoration program is under consideration, and the work will be scheduled to begin in late summer, 2010. The project will include dismantling and re-laying the south [left] bay of this east eaves wall, which has partially delaminated from the core of the wall and is visibly pushed out from the plumb plane of the masonry. This indicates a disintegrating structural bond within the wall core and its mortar. It is critical to the stability of a random rubble masonry wall that the lines of gravitational force be confined within the central core of the wall, and this principle requires a plumb wall in both of its surface planes. |
